Description: The Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program was created to develop model-based estimates of health insurance coverage for counties and states. This developmental program builds on the work of the Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program. Data on health insurance coverage for all counties are not currently available elsewhere.
Population: Based on models using data from federal tax return data, Medicaid/Food Stamp records, March Current Population Survey, and population estimates. Gives national, state, and county level estimates of health insurance coverage for total population, ages zero to 64 (also gives estimates of numbers of children with and without health care coverage, ages zero to 18).
Periodicity: Data available for the following years: 2000-2001, 2005-2007, and 2008-2012 (using ACS Data).
